The Special Team of the Crime Branch nabbed a gang of four men involved in a series of alleged armed robberies. The gang members donned police uniforms and put a red beacon light atop their car to avoid arrest.

Police said the gang had been active for the past four months in Delhi and Haryana.

“Sophisticated weapons, live cartridges, uniform of a sub-inspector of police and a stolen Tata Safari were recovered from them,” said Neeraj Thakur, additional commissioner of police (crime).

A team led by ACP Subhash Tandon laid a trap for the accused in Sultan Pur Dabas village, Bawana, and arrested them. Interrogation revealed that they mostly operated out of stolen vehicles in the NCR region.

To evade being frisked at police checkpoints, they put a red-beacon light on the vehicle and one of the gang members donned a police uniform.

Six cases have been worked-out after their arrest, including attempt to murder, robberies of vehicles and valuables at gunpoint.
