Unidentified burglars broke into the house of a retired Indian Air Force (IAF) officer and decamped with cash and jewellery worth over Rs1.5 lakh from east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar phase-I.

The retired IAF officer, Om Prakash Malhotra, 73, and his wife had gone to Mumbai to visit their daughter when the burglary took place at their flat, the police said.

A senior police officer said that the incident came to light on November 5 after a neighbour found the locks on the main door broken. “The couple arrived here on Tuesday and lodged a complaint at the Mayur Vihar police station. A case of burglary has been registered and efforts are on to nab the assailants,” said the officer.
