Diwali treat for the MCD sanitation workers has come a year late. MCD workers, who tirelessly worked last year during the Commonwealth Games, will be awarded with Rs 2,500 each before the festival starts this year. Municipal Commissioner KS Mehra also issued directions to release Rs 40,000 before Diwali as arrears.

Mehra took these decisions at a marathon meeting of the All India Safai Majdoor Congress held on Friday, where it was also decided that MCD will start regularising the sanitation workers appointed on compassionate ground. The workers, who were on strike since September 28, have withdrawn it.
