The Planning Commission has approved Rs 982 crore package for rehabilitation of the Bhopal gas tragedy victims, the biggest rehabilitation package by the government.
The panel had not cleared the package at a meeting with MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan earlier this year. The state had submitted the plan two years back.
A planning commission official said the package includes Rs 45 crore for the next five years to cover the health of survivors. Special vocational schools for victims’ families is also part of the package. There is also adequate money for improving the underground water quality around Union Carbide. HTC
