West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday expressed displeasure at the Congress putting up a candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections in West Bengal, saying that the party could not win without the support of the Left Front.

“Without Left Front support, they (Congress) cannot win. Let us watch,” she told reporters here. “This is not good,” she remarked.

Her comments after senior Congress leader Abdul Mannan filed his papers.

“If we get Left support then easily we would send our candidate to the Rajya Sabha,” said a senior Congress leader.

Shakeel Ahmed, who is handling Congress affairs in West Bengal, said: “We are hopeful that our candidate will win. We have an edge in numbers.”

Recently Banerjee announced four candidates including Mukul Roy, who will be railway minister. West Bengal has five vacancies. Voting will take place on March 30.
