In a show of Jat solidarity, Outer Delhi MP Sajjan Kumar inaugurated Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri's election office in Mehrauli on Wednesday evening.
“Sajjan Kumar’s appearance could be seen as a subtle hint from the Yoganand camp about his chances of winning from a seat that had only 16 per cent voters from the Jat community. The Punjabis (22 per cent) have more votes here. The Vaish (trader) community has about 20 per cent votes,” said a party leader.
DPCC chairman Jai Prakash skirted controversy and said Sajjan was called because he was the local Member of Parliament. “He will soon invite Sheila Dikshit, too,” said a source close to Shastri.
Leaders pointed out that getting Sajjan Kumar on board could be an attempt to garner the considerable support among Jat voters the leader commands in the area.
Sajjan Kumar, considered one of the heavyweights in Delhi's political set up, was quietly sidelined in these elections as far as selection of candidates was concerned.
