The first multi-level parking lot in the city, at Sarojini Nagar, will start operations by the end of this month. The NDMC has already obtained approvals from the Delhi Fire Services and Delhi Urban Arts Commission.
“We now need approval from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee,” said Anand Tiwari, NDMC spokesperson.
NDMC officials said that once the parking becomes operational, roadside parking will be banned. The Sarojini Nagar parking lot will be able to accommodate 824 vehicles at a given point of time. As the lot is fully automated, parking and retrieving the car will take less than a minute.
After this, the NDMC is hoping to get the multi-level parking lot at Baba Kharak Singh Marg ready too.
This parking lot will operate on palette technology, a first for the city. “A car owner can park the vehicle on the empty palette located on the ground floor. The palette will move and park the car in an empty space. The system can be compared to a Rubik’s cube where continuous space shift helps in parking and retrieving a car,” said a senior NDMC official.
The two multi-level parking lots were to be completed before CWG, but due to delays in getting clearances, the work could not be completed. The parking lot at Baba Kharak Singh Marg will accommodate 1,408 cars.
