The police have arrested a 22-year-old man who connived with a domestic help, drugged two young women and robbed them of their belongings in Sarvodaya Enclave, south Delhi, last month.
The domestic help is still absconding. The police said the accused had befriended the maid on the pretext of getting married to her and had coerced her into committing the crime.
The police said he may have been involved in similar cases of drugging in houses in south Delhi. He has been taken into seven days custody for interrogation.
On May 10, Sharan Suri and Sonal Mahajan were reportedly drugged by their domestic help Luci Minz and the accused, identified as Rahul Paul. The duo had decamped with laptops, cash and valuables from the house.
The women lay unconscious in the house for 24 hours till a friend discovered them. While Saloni works with the sales department of HT Media Limited, Sharan works at the British Council.
The accused was arrested from Ashram in south Delhi by a team of the Special Operation Squad (SOS) led by ACP Udaiveer Rathi.
The accused is a resident of Mohammadpur in RK Puram. He was married six months ago and worked as a tailor. The accused met the domestic help at a park in Sarvodaya Enclave when she went there to meet her friends some months ago.
“The accused promised to marry her. He said they would need money to lead a good life. He planned the robbery with her,” said Anil Shukla, DCP (crime).
The police said the accused had got the sedatives from a friend who works with a chemist.
“After drugging the women, Luci called Rahul on his mobile. They collected the valuables and fled. They stayed at Asansol, Gaya and Howrah. When Luci insisted on marriage, Rahul decided to get rid of her. He tried to give the same sedatives to Luci but when it failed, he abandoned her on a train in West Bengal and came to Delhi to dispose of the stolen items,” said the officer.
The police have recovered two laptops, four mobiles and five credit cards from his possession.
