SC refuses to entertain PIL against Lalu

delhi Updated: Jan 07, 2009 13:07 IST

The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to entertain a public interest litigation (PIL) alleging that Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav had abused his position as a public servant to derive pecuniary advantage for himself and his family.

The petition filed by his rival Janata Dal (United) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh 'Lalan' was withdrawn after a bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan observed that the petitioner has to approach an appropriate authority for the redressal of his grievances.

Lalan had sought CBI probe alleging that the Railway Minister misused his official position in awarding commercial contracts to his family members.
