With the WikiLeak expose on the cash-for-vote scam throwing up new names like Satish Sharma, a Congress MP — also the chairman of a parliamentary committee that investigated the matter — has called for further probe by agencies like the CBI, IT and Enforcement Directorate.

“Though transparent, our report is not comprehensive (as it is based on tapes provided by one TV channel). An investigation by appropriate agencies could probe further the role of certain people involved,” V Kishore Chandra Deo said.

The only case filed from the July 2008 episode is by Crime Branch of Delhi Police after submission of the Rs 1 crore that had been displayed in the House.

A 466-page report of the committee submitted in December 2008 records allegations against Ahmed Patel, political advisor of UPA chief Sonia Gandhi but does not mention Sharma — described as her very close friend in The Hindu-Wikileaks expose on Thursday.

In fact, admitting its limitations, the report in its conclusion recommends “further probe of the matter by an appropriate investigation agency”.

The BJP is now calling for the resignation of PM Manmohan Singh, alleging that votes were bought for the July 2008 confidence motion, but at that time it had not pressed for any further probe “which could have nailed the government”.

“Yes, the matter was not followed up properly as we were preparing for the general elections,” a BJP leader said explaining the silence then.
