Around 233 illegal towers in the city were sealed till Friday while 10 cell phone towers were removed by cell phone operators.
Shahdara (north) zone managed to seal only three illegal towers due to lack of proper police force even as they had set a target of sealing nine towers.
There are a total of 5,364 cell phone towers in the city out of which 2,952 do not have requisite permission from MCD. According to cellular providers, connectivity was affected in areas like Lajpat Nagar and West Delhi.
“There are 393 towers in the area. While 213 are authorised, 186 are illegal and show-cause notices were issued to them earlier this week,” said a senior MCD official from Shahdara (north) zone.
“Cellular providers of 50 of these illegal towers have come forward for regularisation, leaving us with 136 illegal towers in the area,” he added.
Meanwhile, all other zones of the MCD such as City, South, Central, West among others said that they would carry out sealing action starting next week.
The civic agency has been carrying out sealing against illegal cell phone towers.
