A close aide of Himanshu Sabharwal, son of Ujjain professor H S Sabharwal who was beaten and killed in his college in August 2006, was found stabbed to death in the Delhi University campus on Friday, police said.

The body of Parminder Singh, who worked as an accountant with Himanshu, was found lying in the Maurice Nagar area of the campus by a passer-by.

"Himanshu had left Singh at his residence Thursday night and left for his home in Gurgaon," the officer said. "We received a call that a body is lying in Maurice Nagar area. He was later identified as Parminder Singh. Himanshu is being interrogated in the case," the officer said.

A court in Maharashtra had on July 13 had acquitted six students accused of beating to death Prof Sabharwal in Ujjain's Madhav College in August 2006.

The six accused, said to be activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) , the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), were let off due to lack of evidence against them.
