The Delhi Police have arrested a second accused in connection with the brutal rape of a five-year-old girl in east Delhi's Gandhinagar last week. The illiterate and unemployed teenager, Pradeep Kumar, was arrested from a village in Bihar on Sunday night.

Pradeep's alleged involvement surfaced during the interrogation of Manoj Kumar Sah, the victim's neighbour and tenant who brutalised her and locked her in a room to die. He was nabbed from his uncle's house in Barahiya village in Bihar's Lakhisarai by a joint team of Delhi and Bihar police.

Sah was arrested on Friday night from his in-law's house at Chiknauta village in Bihar's Muzaffarpur.

Pradeep reportedly confessed to the crime. "I have committed a mistake, the biggest mistake of my life," Pradeep told reporters in Bihar. He was expected to be in the Capital by late Monday night.

During his initial interrogation, Pradeep said he and Sah subjected the girl to brutality and fled Delhi after believing that she had died.

"We have got information from (our team in) Bihar that Pradeep has confessed to the crime. He is illiterate," Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar said.

The police have now invoked sections of gang rape in the case.

Bihar director general of police Abhayanand said Pradeep was produced before Lakhisarai chief judicial magistrate Vishnu Dev Upadhay who sent him to transit remand.

Police sources said Sah told interrogators that it was Pradeep who subjected the girl to brutality. Sah claimed he was out to buy chicken and other household items when Pradeep raped the girl and inserted foreign objects inside her vagina.

Investigators, however, believe Sah is lying and will confront him with Pradeep. Senior police officers said that it was Sah who lured the girl to his room with a chocolate.

Sah was known to the girl as she used to come to his room to watch television.Pradeep belongs to Ahiyapur in Sheikhupura district of Bihar.

He left his native place for Delhi four years ago and working as a mason. They became friends around three years ago when they were neighbours in Loni.
