With the stage set for Beijing Olympics tomorrow, a multi-layer security cordon was thrown around the Chinese Embassy here as a precautionary measure to ward off protests by Tibetans as witnessed during the torch relay in April.
Taking cue from previous experience when the protesters jumped into the Chinese Mission from tree tops, Delhi Police, assisted by para-military forces, threw various rings around and has sealed the area for general public.
Water cannons have also been stationed at strategic points to prevent any protests by Tibetan exiles who had led a fervent agitation during the Olympics torch run in the capital and also stormed the Embassy, catching the policemen napping.
Hundreds of Tibetan exiles were arrested and at times even mild force was also used to disperse the crowd which had even once tried to enter the Rashtrapati Bhavan by force.
The Chinese officials here have held series of meetings with Home Ministry officials and security agencies to avoid any such incident when the mega sporting event is declared open in Beijing tomorrow.
Tibetan had created a flutter during the Olympics run in various countries with large scale protests sending the security agencies in tizzy especially in France where the Olympic torch was also allegedly put out.
