According to sources, son of a Union Minister studying at the college was threatened inside the college premises on Thursday morning.
Principal Valson Thampu called an emergency meeting on Friday afternoon to appraise students and teachers of the security threat.
“We were told that the son of a VIP was threatened inside the men’s toilet on Thursday. He later informed the college authorities,” said a student on conditions of anonymity.
“The principal told us that there would be increased security, checking and frisking and we should be prepared to put up with that,” the student said.
Thampu talked of a serious security problem and announced that no student would be allowed without a valid identity card.
He added that residential students could not bring guest into the cafeteria.
“The principal told us that he had received a letter from the home ministry some time back asking him not to allow any functions after 7 p.m. inside the college,” said a faculty member on conditions of anonymity.
The police have registered a case under section 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) at the Maurice Nagar police station after they received the complaint from the minister’s son. Police said they upped the security in the college.
