Had it not been for the alertness of 60-year-old Satish Chadha, at least one pickpocket would have had a prolonged crime run before the law finally caught up with him.

Thanks to Chadha’s swift reaction and bravery, the Outer Delhi Police managed to nab a pickpocket.

The incident happened when Chadha, a resident of Rohini, boarded a bus from Sai Baba Chowk to Karol Bagh on Tuesday afternoon.

The police said that two youths took R4,000 from his pocket while he (Chadha) was buying the ticket.

"He caught one of the accused in the bus when he realized his pocket was picket but the latter passed the cash to his accomplice. And the two pickpockets got off the bus when it stopped at a bus stop," said Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer).

But the complainant also got down at the same stop and chased the two while shouting for help.

A beat constable named Harish Kumar, who was patrolling in the area, saw this and caught one of the accused. The police later identified him as Kirpal Singh (21).

Singh told the police that his accomplice Anand managed to escape from the spot.

On sustained interrogation, Singh told the police that he and Anand had been picking people's pockets in crowned buses, especially in Outer Delhi areas.

"Singh is a resident of Sultanpuri and an illiterate. He has been involved in criminal activities since adolescence," added Sharma.
