New episodes of soap operas have been off air because of the cine-workers’ strike that began last Monday. But viewers have just switched channels and are tuning in to news and sports programmes. The only entertainment programme that has got a high audience figure is the reality show, Big Boss 2.

The Television Rating Point (TRP) – the percentage of people watching a programme — of news channels have gone up by 10 per cent, while that of sports channels have spiked by 61 per cent.

“The Indian Cricket League got more than double the number of viewers this week than previous ones,” said a spokesperson of Audience Measurement and Analytics. Even football, and boxing gained a new viewership over the last week.
