Seven school children suffered minor injuries when a speeding mini school bus overturned in outer Delhi’s Bawana area on Saturday morning.
The accident took place at around 7.30 am at Bawana crossing. The private mini bus was ferrying around 15 children to a private school in Bawana, police said.
A senior police officer said the driver of the speeding mini bus lost control while taking a sharp turn from Bawana crossing to reach Link Road. The vehicle swerved on one side precariously and overturned, eyewitnesses said.
“Out of the 15 school children, seven children, between the age of 7 to12 years, suffered injuries. They were immediately rushed to Maharishi Valmiki Hospital. Parents of all the injured children were informed about the accident and they reached the hospital after some time. The injured children were administered first-aid and were discharged later. None of the injured had any major injury,” said a senior police officer.
Asked about the cause of accident, the senior police officer said eyewitnesses told the police that the driver of the mini bus was driving rashly and at a high speed when the accident took place.
“Apparently, the errant driver tried to take a sharp turn on the road because of which he lost control over it,” the senior police officer said, adding a case of rash and negligent driving causing hurt was registered against the errant driver.
The driver was later arrested and the mini school bus impounded.
