Two members of a gang which robs people by drugging them on the pretext of sharing auto with them and target those boarding an auto from railway stations and bus terminals were arrested by two cops on patrol.

But what could have easily be a breakthrough in busting an active gang, which have committed five robberies in the recent past, turned out to be an embarrassment for the cops.

Two policemen noticed some persons leaving a man in an unconscious state near Raj Ghat.

They immediately reached the spot and arrested the duo. The unconscious man, later identified as Kanhaiya, is a probationary officer with a bank in Jaipur. “Kanhaiya had arrived in Delhi to meet his brother, who lives in Mehrauli. He got down from the bus at Dhaula Kuan and hired an auto. But after covering some distance, the auto driver pleaded with him to share the auto with two more passengers so that he could earn some extra money in the night,”said Taj Hasan, joint commissioner of police (central range) However, in an acute embarrassment to the cops, one of the robbers — Mohd Anwar — fled by jumping off the auto while the other — Mohd Naeem — consumed the same sedative in custody with which he had laced Kanhaiya’s drink.

Now, Naeem is claiming that he was a victim rather than the robber.

The police, in a fix, are yet to register a case of robbery.
