When residents of Vasant Kunj met Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at the secretariat on Saturday, solutions to environmental and civic issues arising out of the widening of a road stretch and simultaneous poor site management, was on their agenda.
Not only did the CM promise solutions to most of those issues, she also said Vasant Kunj would witness fast development keeping in view future requirements.
“Foot overbridges, under-passes, public conveniences and gardens will be developed to make Vasant Kunj a colony with all modern amenities,” she said. The CM met the residents after Hindustan Times earlier this month published a three-part series and highlighted how government agencies were widening the 3.5-km stretch from Andheria Mod towards Mahipalpur by demolishing boundaries and illegally felling trees without caring for pedestrian mobility.
“She (the CM) took note of inputs submitted by the RWAs and assured the government would continue to remain in touch with residents,” said a communiqué released by the CM’s office. For every tree felled for the widening, the CM ordered 10 saplings of better quality be planted, demolished boundaries repaired and smooth pedestrian mobility ensured.
“The Institute of Liver and Bilary Sciences is located in the colony. A Nature Bazar has been commissioned near Andheria Mod. This will become a hub of convenient marketing. A Metro line will be dedicated to people,” the communiqué said.
The Delhi parks and garden society will take care of the plantation while the PWD will repair the boundaries. “Since a Metro line has to go through the area, foot overbridges, cannot be promised now. But we will build underpasses for pedestrian mobility,” said an official.
