An 18-year-old domestic help has been allegedly raped by her 50-year-old employer in Rajouri Garden of west Delhi.
Police said that Thursday night the victim escaped from the house of accused Paramjeet Singh, where she was being held hostage. She then complained to police after which Singh, who deals in medical equipment, was arrested.
The victim, from West Bengal, was engaged as a domestic help just three days back at Singh’s R-Block residence through a placement agency, the police said.
Singh is a widower and lives with his paralysed father, they added.
“The victim in her complaint has alleged that Singh raped her on June 16 and June 17. He then threatened her with dire consequences and held her captive in his house,” said a senior police officer who requested anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
On Thursday night, Singh went out to bring a cooking gas cylinder for the house, the police said. In the meantime, the victim called the owner of the placement agency who took her to police and filed an FIR.
The victim was then sent to a nearby government hospital for medical examination, which confirmed rape.
“After her medical examination we lodged a case of rape and wrongful confinement against Singh and arrested him from his house,” the officer added.
The victim is married and has a son, the police said.
