Profession: Iqbal owns agricultural land in Badarpur Khadar area and farming is his main source of income.

Education: Joined college but could not complete his graduation.

Political career: Iqbal joined VP Singh’s Jan Morcha in 1987 and joined Janata Dal in 1988. In 1993, he contested the assembly elections and won. He was re-elected in 1998 and 2003. He was deputy speaker in the third assembly.

Family: Iqbal’s wife Huma is a homemaker. They have six children — four daughters and two sons. “I don’t get time for my children due to my political commitments. The culture of the Walled City is such that people keep coming to meet me till 1-2 a.m. By the time I wake up, the children would have already left for school,” said Iqbal. “I did not opt for the official bungalow despite being eligible because I wanted to live with my people.” Iqbal listens to qawallis and ghazals to unwind.
