It was good news for the sports authorities of Hansraj College on day one of the sports trials.

The shooting trials witnessed an all-time high registration of 39, up from last year’s 15 candidates.

This escalation is because of the college’s decision to form a women’s pistol shooting team.

“This step has given us an opportunity to get admitted into this coveted college,” said Neha Verma, 18, a state-level pistol shooter, who scored 61% marks in Class XII.

“Already we have 16 teams, which are champions in their respective sports. We want to ensure we are able to champion this category as well,” said MS Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Physical Education.

Shooting fanatics maintain if they have their way, their first preference would be Hansraj College, because of its well-equipped and air-conditioned shooting range.

“I would go for Hansraj College over SRCC and St Stephen’s, because of the brilliant shooting facilities,” said Khushali Bakshi (18), a gold-medalist in pistol shooting at the state level.

“Hansraj has a closed shooting range, whereas other colleges have either open ranges or ranges with ordinary facilities,” said Pratishtha Rawat (18), a national-level pistol shooter.
