Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Lokpal, Abhishek Singhvi, on Saturday hit back at BJP for alleging that the panel has made the report legally complex to make the legislation's passage difficult.
Singhvi, who is also Congress spokesperson, also took a dig at the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley who had attacked the report of the committee.
"It is strange that those who were practicing lawyers till three years ago has suddenly become habitual attackers and defamers of law and lawyers as a class," Sighvi told PTI in an obvious reference to Jaitley.
Jaitley had alleged that there seems to be an attempt to make the report so complicated that passage of the Bill becomes difficult.
Attacking Jaitley, Singhvi said it would be interesting to ask "that person" as to how a subject involving complex and technical legislation should be done on the basis of "political gimmickry and without serious legal inputs as the former law minister seems to suggest."
"It would be a sad day for the BJP and former law minister in their eager urge for cheap political gimmickry and for opportunistic crime to ride piggy-back on Team Anna is asking the nation to frame complex legislation on the basis of politics," he said.
