Pending a settlement on the boundary issue, India and China have reiterated that peace and tranquillity should be maintained along their borders.

The two sides made this commitment at the conclusion of the 13th round of India-China Special Representatives talks on the boundary question at New Delhi on Saturday.

The talks — between National Security Adviser MK Narayanan and Chinese State Councillor Dai Bingguo — covered a wide range of issues, besides the boundary question.

Describing relations with China as the key foreign policy priority for India, Narayanan said that the joint document on a “shared vision for the 21st century” — signed during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to China January last year — had taken bilateral relations to a new level.
