Sitting Congress MLA resigns

Congress MLA from Sami Harij, Bhavsinh Rathor, who has joined BJP and is contesting Lok Sabha polls from Patan seat on the saffron party ticket has resigned as MLA on Tuesday.

"Bhavsinh Rathor submitted his resignation," Gujarat Assembly Speaker Ashok Bhatt told PTI. He said that the MLA has resigned because he was a sitting Congress MLA.

Congress had demanded Rathor's disqualification under anti-defection law as he was voted on Congress ticket in the last assembly polls. Rathor was chargesheeted in a drug smuggling case.
