Six killed in road accidents in span of 5 hrs

Six people, including a seven-year-old boy, were killed and four injured in three separate road accidents in different parts of the Capital between Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Six people, including a seven-year-old boy, were killed and four injured in three separate road accidents in different parts of the Capital between Sunday night and early Monday morning.

The accidents occurred within a span of five hours and all victims were riding motorcycles.

In the first accident, two people were killed when a speeding truck hit a motorcycle. Fifty-year-old Ashok Kumar and a minor boy were killed. Kumar's son Manoj and the minor's 3-year-old brother suffered critical injuries after being hit and dragged up to 10m by the truck.

The accident took place around 11pm in west Delhi's Punjabi Bagh area. The four live in Kishanganj area of Delhi.

The father-son duo, along with the children, were on their way to attend a function at Manoj's in-laws' house in Rani Bagh and to see his new born baby. "They had taken the two children for a joy ride on their motorcycle," said the senior police officer.

The police have registered a case of hit-and-run against the errant truck driver who managed to escape from the spot along with his vehicle.

The second accident took place in outer Delhi's Mangolpuri in which three friends were killed after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a mini truck. The accident took place around 2.20am at Dipali Chowk.

The deceased have been identified as Raj Kumar, 25, Mukesh, 28, and Mahendra Mishra, 22. While Kumar and Mukesh were residents of Wazirpur area, Mishra lived in Kirti Nagar. All three worked in a private company in Kirti Nagar.

Police said the victims were returning after attending a wedding function in Sultanpuri.

A senior police officer said, "We have registered a case and arrested the errant mini truck driver, identified as Ram Dev." Dev was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

In the third accident, an 18-year-old was killed while his friend was injured after the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a speeding tempo in Alipur area.

Mohsin was killed while his friend Sandeep was injured in the accident that occurred around 9.30pm.

According to police, the errant tempo driver Deepu also sustained injuries when his vehicle overturned after hitting the motorcycle. Deepu has been arrested and the police have registered a case.
