Delhi Police’s Special Cell on Friday night arrested six sharpshooters belonging to the Chota Shakeel gang late on Friday.

They had come to the Capital to allegedly target Varun Gandhi and his lawyer.

Joint commissioner (Special Cell) PN Aggarwal said: “We arrested them last night from different parts of the city. They were produced in court on Saturday and have been taken into seven-day remand. We are interrogating them.”

According to police sources two of the accused are named Shahid and Javed. On March 30, Mangalore police had arrested Rashid Malabari who was given a contract by Shakeel to allegedly kill BJP MP Varun Gandhi and Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik.

According to Special Cell sources Malabari allegedly told the police another batch of Shakeel sharpshooters might be sent to the Capital to kill Gandhi.

The police also revealed that one of those arrested had allegedly done a recce of one of Gandhi’s lawyers house in the Capital. Police seized sophisticated pistols from the accused. The police have reportedly arrested them from busy market areas all over the Capital. Sources said police, acting on a tip-off, raided six different places in the city.

According to a senior Special Cell officer Shakeel had sent them to allegedly target important and rich people. “We are quite sure that a popular politician, his lawyer and a few well known city builders were on their hitlist,” he said.
