A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl sleeping in her house was woken up, taken to a residential building in the neighbourhood, brutally beaten up and raped on a staircase used extensively by the area’s residents who, however, said they didn’t know the crime occurred there.

The girl’s parents, sleeping in the same room where she slept, were unaware their daughter was taken by an unknown person and raped. The police said after raping the girl, the accused left her back at her house.

Her parents told the police they never bolted the room from inside, which the accused probably knew.

The police said the child, traumatized, had provided only faint details about the accused. The girl has bruises on her body and the police said she was beaten up before being raped.

The incident came to light around 3 a.m. on Wednesday when the victim’s parents found her crying. “She was bleeding profusely and had bruises on her forehead, back and on her private parts. They rushed her to Safdarjung Hospital,” said a police officer.

The hospital authorities informed the police at around 4 a.m. on Wednesday.

“We are shocked to hear about the incident. Several people live in the building where the girl was raped but no one came to know. I also have two daughters, I now fear leaving them alone even for a minute,” said Reena, the next-door neighbor of the victim.

A medical report has confirmed that the victim was raped and a case was registered at the Sarojini Nagar police station.

Another minor was raped in the capital on Tuesday evening. The five-year-old girl was reportedly lured by her 20-year-old neighbour to his house and raped in Jehangirpuri area in northwest Delhi at around 5 p.m. The police said that the accused, who is unemployed, has been arrested.
