Paimana Khanjar, 22, a US national of Afghan origin stabbed to death by her fiancé at a guesthouse in Jungpura area of south Delhi on Saturday night, was not interested in coming to India.

The accused, Omid Milad Hussain Khill, told the police during interrogation that he had asked Khanjar to meet him once and promised to call off the engagement after the meeting.

"Khanjar had clearly told him that she was not interested in marrying him. But Khill had asked her to meet him once and discuss the matter. But coming to India proved fatal for her as Khill had already decided to kill her if she refused to marry him," a senior police officer requesting anonymity said.

Khill has been sent to police custody for four days. The cops are yet to recover the clothes he was wearing when he killed Khanjar. "He changed his clothes after killing Khanjar and dumped the clothes at a nearby park. He does not remember the exact location but it is somewhere near Saket. The clothes will be a crucial evidence for the case," the officer added.

Khill, who is studying in Russia, has told police that he had bought the kitchen knife three days before the incident with an intention to kill his fiancée. Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination of the body was conducted on Monday and the body has been preserved.

The woman's aunt will take the body to the US where her family lives.

"Khanjar's family is not coming to take the body. Her aunt, who is lives in Delhi, will send the body. She will also go to the US in a day or two," a friend of Khanjar said.

Paimana Khanjar had come to Delhi on February 25 to meet Khill. He arrived a day later.

Police said the couple had got engaged in Afghanistan three years ago but Khanjar was not interested in marrying Khill.
