Slain cop's family blame it on 'heartless' protesters

Tomar was part of the police detail at India Gate and suffered critical injuries during violence by the protesters at India Gate on Sunday.
He had been admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital. Tomar breathed his last at 6.40am on Tuesday.
Tomar's death came as a shock not just to his family but to the Delhi Police force, which has been under intense pressure over allegations of mishandling of the protests erupted after the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old woman.
The policeman was cremated with full state honours at 3.40pm at the the Nigambodh Ghat crematorium amid slogans of 'Jab-tak suraj chand rahega, Subhash Tomar tera naam rahega' and 'Subhash Tomar amar rahen'.
Earlier, his body was carried to the funeral pyre by the top brass of Delhi Police, including commissioner Neeraj Kumar.
Minister of state for home RPN Singh, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, civil aviation minister Ajit Singh, Union home secretary RK Singh Kumar were among those who attended the funeral of Tomar.
Before the cremation, Kumar had a discussion with RPN Singh, RK Singh and Sheila Dikshit about the compensation for the constable's family.
Kumar later assured providing all possible help to the constable's wife and his sons. A group of protesters gathered outside the crematorium demanded capital punishment to those responsible for the cop's death.
Tomar's wife, Amresh Devi, said, "He was sole bread winner. We have to take care of the education of three children besides other household expenses. The loss is irreparable."
Blaming protesters for his father's death, Tomar's son Deepak claimed that his father was assaulted by the protesters at India Gate.
"My father was assaulted and trampled upon by protesters at India Gate. Even as he lied unconscious on the road nobody cared for him. If justice for the gangrape victim was the cause for which the agitators were protesting, then why did they kill my father? Now we want justice from those protesters for my father's death," said Jyoti.
Tomar hailed from Baghpat in UP and lived with his family in northeast Delhi's Meet Nagar.
He had joined Delhi Police in 1987 and was attached to the Karawal Nagar police station.
