Rajender Gautam (57) and his family have not had a single night's peaceful sleep ever since April 27. Their house was burgled that night. And they were all home.

"I just thank my stars that they did not harm me or my family. We have been living in fear since the incident," Gautam said.

This is the fifth such robbery in 45 days in H Block of Saket in South Delhi.

Just a kilometre away from this leafy, quiet colony is PVR Anupam—one of Delhi's oldest and most popular multiplex cinema

Possibly at an hour when moviegoers were returning to the neighborhood after the late night show, thieves opened the screws to the kitchen window in Gautam's house and climbed in.

“They must’ve sprayed something in our rooms because when we got up the next day we were all groggy.”

And on May 14, Annapurna Sehgal (50) found her residence door open and the whole house ransacked.

This time the thieves struck in the afternoon when she was out.

“The moment I saw the front door of my house open I knew something was wrong,” said Sehgal. “I did not enter the house and called the police from our neighbour's house.”

Sehgal’s 80-year-old neighbour was not too unfamiliar with the situation.

After all, Uma Rituria's house too was burgled a few months back.

“This has become a regular feature in this block,” said Sehgal.

Residents are angry at what they see as the police's callous attitude.

“They just came, dusted the house with fingerprinting dust and left. Nothing has happened after that," said Gautam. "I told them the cellphone the thieves took is still activated, but they haven’t done anything."

Police claim they’re doing everything to stop the burglaries.
