High drama was witnessed at the residence of veteran JD(U) leader George Fernandes late Friday afternoon when a crowd gathered outside his house and his family members had to call police to intervene.
The crowd, which certain party insiders claimed were supporters of Fernandes as well as his associate Jaya Jaitley, gathered outside his 3, Krishna Menon Marg residence and started shouting slogans against each other.
Hearing the commotion, Fernandes' family including his estranged wife Leila Kabir and his son, who are currently staying with him, called the police.
A police officer said a team from Tughlaq Road police station reached the spot on receiving the information about the incident and took five persons into preventive custody. They were, however, released later.
A close associate of Fernandes told PTI that Leila Kabir later lodged a complaint with the police about the incident.
However, a police officer said, "No case has been registered in connection with the incident."
