High mobile and internet penetration acted as a boon for Delhites, this monsoon. For most Delhites, it is a norm to plan their days after checking traffic updates on social networking sites and through SMS services.
Traffic alerts by Facebook and Twitter and SMS updates by the Delhi Traffic Police have helped many avoid getting stuck in unending traffic jams.
The Delhi Traffic police had begun providing traffic updates through SMS alerts on July 16.
"Regular updates about traffic jams, waterlogging, road cave -ins were being sent to subscribers through SMS alerts. Many people send their queries to us about which roads to take and which to avoid, through Facebook and Twitter," said Ajay Chadha, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
