An Assistant Election Retaining Officer and his wife were attacked in Paschim Vihar in West Delhi on Wednesday night. The victims alleged that the police registered a case of snatching while they were attacked and robbed.

Vinay Kaushik (42) was stabbed in the lower abdomen when he tried to fight a man who snatched his wife's gold chain. The couple went for a walk post dinner around 9:00 pm when the incident took place.

A police officer said, “A man on foot approached his wife and tried to snatch her gold chain. When she resisted, the snatcher attacked her. When Vinay Kaushik tried to save his wife, the snatcher stabbed him.”

The victims told the police that the snatcher fled on foot for a while but he was soon helped by his accomplice on a bike. His wife immediately called the police who took Kaushik to a nearby hospital. The victim was earlier posted as an executive magistrate.

The couple also alleged that the police were reluctant to register a case. The police however said they have registered a case under relevant sections and have initiated investigations. No arrests have been made in the case so far.
