Sonagachi woman ‘initiated’ 14-yr-old into flesh trade

A tale of turmoil engulfed the 14-year-old girl, who admitted a battered baby to AIIMS in January, as soon as she decided to escape her father's brutal, daily beatings and attempts at starvation in June last year.

"Her mother had died when she was aged around eight and she became the object of her father's hatred soon after," said a senior investigating officer.

The victim apparently saw a ray of hope in an unidentified woman, who used to stay in an adjacent bylane near her Govindpuri residence and met her at the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara after she ran away from home.

This mystery woman, the police claimed, introduced her to Pooja, who hails from Sonagachi in Kolkata and 'initiated' her into the flesh trade. Pooja even forced her to marry an old man in UP's Etah.

"She was repeatedly raped by Pooja's husband Sandeep when she refused to live with the old man. They brought her back to Delhi and held her in captivity at a house in Tughlakabad where her sexual exploitation at Sandeep's hands continued," the officer said.

Police said the girl was raped by several men over many months before she found herself at a brothel of sorts in Kalkaji and met Dilshad Ahmed alias Rajkumar. Ironically, as per her statement before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), out of all the men whom she met after running away from home, Rajkumar was the only one who didn't 'exploit' her.

"She claims she married him according to Hindu rituals and stayed with him as his 'wife' out of her own consent," said the officer. The police on Wednesday arrested Pooja, her husband Sandeep as well as the girl's father.
