Congress president Sonia Gandhi is likely to emphasise the urgency of taking the message of the Union Budget, including the Rs 60,000 crore loan waiver scheme for farmers, down to the district and block level when she addresses the Congress parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday.
Sonia is also likely to unveil her strategy on the contentious Indo-US civil nuclear deal on which the Left parties have threatened to withdraw support.
With a series of assembly polls lined up this year and the possibility of Lok Sabha elections taking place at the end of the year, Sonia’s main concern would be to see that the organisation takes the “pro-farmer and pro-people” initiatives of the Congress-led government to the grass roots and so that the party can consolidate its support among various sections of the population.
In the next two months, the Congress hopes to organize a series of public meetings, seminars and conventions at the state, district and block levels. Central leaders will address these rallies.
