The unpredictable weather of the Capital won't surprise you anymore.
Those looking for hourly weather updates would soon get live weather feed on Twitter and Facebook as the Indian Meteorological Department plans to go live on these social networking sites. "People look for hourly weather updates and we get a lot of queries from the public. So, to connect with the people and to provide them regular and correct weather updates, we'll be using social networking sites," said BP Yadav, Director (Forecast), Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD already has an active and comprehensive website on which weather updates are provided several times a day. The website has a lot of features including weather updates for Indian Premier League matches, which is a recently added feature.
"In a cricket crazy country like ours, people want to know whether rains are going to interrupt the match. So we began giving forecast for the IPL matches," said a senior met officer.
Forecast for IPL and other cricket matches would also be updated on the soon to be launched Twitter and Facebook pages of the IMD.
"The weather nowcast, which gives weather updates every three hours, is the new value added feature on our website and would be beneficial for the general public," said Yadav.
The weather nowcast feature, on their website imd.gov.in, also gives weather forecast and special nowcast warning separately for all nine districts of the Capital.
"The IMD, which has been in service for over a century now, wants to be as people friendly as possible so that the common man can make the best use of weather updates and can plan his outdoor engagements," the met officer said.
