Would you like to test somebody’s proficiency in Hindi? An online global test exclusively for Hindi, built on the same pattern as TOEFL, will soon allow you to do so.
The National and International Knowledge Accreditation Standard for Hindi (Nikash) will be launched by the Kendriya Hindi Sansathan, fundamentally to test the skills and knowledge in Hindi of those living abroad.
“This will be an international online Hindi ability test that will have the same format as TOEFL. We have called a meeting of experts to decide on the framework for the test. It will not be just a platform to test Hindi grammar. Emphasis will be on promoting conversational Hindi and Hindi culture, including films,” Ashok Chakradhar, vice-chairman of Kendriya Hindi Sansathan, told HT.
Maintaining that Hindi has become a global language, he said: “There are many NRIs who want to hone their knowledge of Hindi. This test will help enhance employment opportunities.”
“This will be yet another addition to the already existing global tests for languages. We will not copy TOEFL but will use the same concept,” Chakradhar added.
