Shop for Rs 100 or more at Sarojini Nagar market parking lot to get free parking for your vehicle.
DLF has thought up the offer to popularise the multi-level parking lot, called the South Square, at the market. The first two floors of the parking lot, which is managed by the real-estate giant, have shops, most of them eateries. The offer is valid for these shops alone.
The multi-level parking lot can accommodate 824 vehicles and was inaugurated in 2011. The number of motorists using the facility has been low because of the option to avail surface parking. Traders refuse to use it saying that the parking and retrieval of cars take time.
"The offer will be continued till Diwali to encourage more people to use the multi-level parking lot. We are trying to ascertain whether the offer has been successful in attracting more people to the facility," said a spokesperson for DLF.
More people are expected to use the parking lot after the Delhi Metro completes the construction of a station nearby.Traders from the market have expressed concern that the work on the Metro station could affect surface parking.
"Around 350 vehicles can be parked in the area blocked off for the construction. This may also have an effect on festive season sales," Ashok Randhawa, president of Sarojini Nagar Mini Market Association, said.
The association has requested the Delhi Metro to shift the construction site from D Avenue to a nearby area to keep the area open for parking. "If the construction starts in D Avenue, both carriageways will be affected. Cars will not be able to be parked alongside the row of shops," Randhawa added.
