Several properties in the city were demolished and sealed on Wednesday with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) cracking down on unauthorised constructions.
Areas in South zone such as Malviya Nagar, Hauz Khas Apartments, Khirki Extension and Chhatarpur Village saw massive action with the MCD tearing down extra floors and sealing entire properties.
Portions of 13 properties in south Delhi were demolished. Among them, four properties in Malviya Nagar, Rajpur Khurd Extension, Khirki Extension and Chhatarpur Enclave witnessed demolition of two floors each.
Two properties in Kishangarh in south Delhi were also sealed completely as they were functioning without adequate permits.
According to officials of the MCD, in all, 25 properties across the city were demolished and 12 were sealed in south Delhi, Najafgarh, Rohini, Central and Civil Lines zones by the Building Department of the MCD with the help of local police.
In Civil Lines zone, portions of two properties in Bhalaswa Dairy and Mukherjee Nagar were demolished. The property in Bhalaswa Dairy was building a godown at the ground floor and so the walls were pulled down. Seven properties in Najafgarh zone's Matiyala and Indra Park among other areas were sealed while portions of one property in Sagarpur were demolished.
In Rohini zone, eight properties in Budh Vihar Ph-I, Keshavpuram, Vijay Vihar Ph-II and Ashok Vihar-I were targeted.
In Central zone, portions of four properties in Tajpur Village, Badarpur and Mathura Road were demolished.
"In many areas of the city, builders construct properties illegally and sell them to unsuspecting people who later have to bear the brunt. The MCD has stepped up its demolition actions so that buyers are more careful before purchasing properties," said an MCD official.
The demolition drive will continue on Thursday as well.
