A day after two consecutive heists in southwest Delhi, police are yet to receive concrete clues in either incident.
However, investigators are more or less certain about one thing: neither could have been perpetrated without the active support of an insider.
“The circumstantial evidence gathered from, and preliminary investigations into, both incidents have given us reason to believe that someone known to the victims provided several vital clues to the assailants,” said a senior police officer.
Hours after four assailants waylaid and injured Hansraj and two of his employees — as they were carrying gold jewellery through Delhi Cantonment around 10.45pm on Tuesday — another gang struck at a jeweller’s shop in southwest Delhi’s Palam on Wednesday afternoon and fled with valuables worth Rs 5 crore.
While AK Ojha, DCP (southwest), refused to shed light on investigations into either incident, sources said police were close to breakthroughs in both cases.
