Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav has been named the chairman of the ethics committee in Rajya Sabha. He succeeds veteran Congress leader Karan Singh.
With Yadav getting to head a key parliamentary panel, the move shows the growing bond between Congress and the Samajwadi Party, which has helped the UPA government on many crucial occasions in parliament.
Recently, SP chief directed his party MPs to walk out of the two Houses of Parliament on the FDI policy, which saved the government from a major embarrassment.
Congress then appeared to oblige the UP outfit when it did not press hard enough for the constructional amendment Bill, aimed at reservation in promotions. This had led to BSP flaying the government.
