The special cell and the crime branch of the Delhi Police are the two elite departments that the new Delhi police commissioner BK Gupta plans to revive and revamp.
The new police chief made it clear on Wednesday that his main aim is to revamp the wings of the two units.
"Both these wings will get the best officers, best investigators. These wings are going to get a makeover," said Gupta.
According to senior police officers in the Delhi Police, there is going to major reshuffle in the departments and many new officers might be brought into these units.
"A young and fresh batch of officers may also be inducted in the departments as well," said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
Gupta also added that intelligence gathering is an important component in securing the Capital and he would make every effort to ensure that the special cell is equipped to do so. Modern surveillance gadgets and new weapons might also be added to the special cell's arsenal. Likewise, he said, data collection was important for the crime branch.
Gupta also commended the force for the traffic arrangements they made during the Commonwealth Games.
"The problem is that people tend to violate traffic rules. Police officers will hit the roads. We will also use new technology," he said. Plans are underway to even start the currently stalled Intelligent Traffic Management System.
