delhi Updated: Jun 21, 2012 23:35 IST

A 25-year-old man was injured when his bike was hit by a speeding truck in Jafrabad area of northeast Delhi on Wednesday night.

The incident triggered a riot-like situation with the local residents blocking the road and setting four trucks on fire.

"Mohammad Akram was returning home on his two-wheeler when a speeding truck hit his bike from behind in Jafrabad. He lost his balance and fell from the vehicle and came under the rear wheel of the truck," a senior police officer said.

The police said the driver fled from the spot, leaving behind the truck. A PCR call was made and the victim was rushed to GTB Hospital, where he is recuperating.

Six police personnel were also injured after a group of people turned violent. The police said after the accident, Akram’s relatives and the infuriated residents started pelting stones at the truck and policemen.

In another incident, two persons were injured when a speeding auto-rickshaw turned turtle while overtaking a motorcycle at Welcome on Wednesday evening.

Mohan Lal, 47, a resident of Kabir Nagar, and Ayub Khan of Ghaziabad were sharing the auto when the accident took place at 7.30pm on Wednesday.
