Valson Thampu's appointment as principal of St. Stephen's College is now being questioned by a large section of the college faculty.
Twenty-three permanent faculty members have moved a representation before the Delhi University Vice Chancellor, seeking an investigation into the selection of the principal.
The representation, sent to the V-C on Thursday, states: "We urge you to make a decisive intervention …so that the clouds that threaten to undermine the integrity of the college Principal, teachers and members of the Supreme Council are removed..."
"We have also approached the Delhi University Teachers Association," said a teacher.
This move comes in the wake of emails — shared between Thampu, former legal counselor Sunil Mathews, Supreme Council member Enos Das Pradhan and Supreme Council chairman Bishop Sunil K Singh — leaked last month.
HT first reported this on February 23. Some of the emails discuss details of the selection process and have been exchanged during the period (March 2008 to September 2008) Thampu was officially not associated with the college. Though Thampu denied sending the emails, Mathews acknowledged their authenticity.
"I have received the letter, but haven't looked at it properly yet. (I) won't be able to say anything now," said Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental.
