It was verbal prowess at its best as 34 teams from 28 colleges in the Capital battled it out at the HT-Leadership Debate, which was held at the Shriram College of Commerce on Saturday.
After hours of debating in the preliminary round, teams from Ramjas College, St.Stephen’s College, Miranda House, Hansraj College, Delhi School of Economics and Venkateshwara College made it to the finals.
In the final round, the teams argued on the topic — This house believes it is time for India to turn aspiration into aggression.
Infused with wit and some hard facts, the final contestants put forth their views passionately.
The interjections and rebuttals added to the entertainment quotient of the event.
Advertising professional and author Anuja Chauhan and Hindustan Times, Delhi, Resident Editor Yashwant Raj, who were the judges for the event, had a tough job on their hands as the contestants tried to out do each other with their gift of gab.
The team from St. Stephen's College emerged as the winner while Venkateshwara College team was the runner-up.
The winner of the Delhi leg will lock horns with St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore, St Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and St Andrew’s College, Mumbai, at the finals to be held in the Capital on October 26.
“It was a great event. The topic was very relevant and in sync with the times and situations India is facing,” said Shaman Marya of St Stephen's College. “We are very happy to win and are looking forward to the finals.”
