Explosives brought from Karnataka

The police say all the explosives used in the serial blasts in Ahmedabad and Delhi had been sourced from Karnataka. “It was Sajid, who is still absconding, and Mohammad Saif, who was arrested by the Special Cell from the L-18 flat in Jamia Nagar on Friday, who brought the explosives to Delhi by train,” said DCP (south) H.G.S. Dhaliwal.

Bombs assembled at Jamia Nagar flat

The police say all the bomb components -- ammonium nitrate, ball bearings, timer clocks, detonators -- were put together at the L-18 flat in Jamia Nagar in the early hours of September 13. HT was the first to report about the bombs being assembled in Delhi last Wednesday. A few hours later, explosions ripped through the southern and central parts of the city, killing 24 and injuring more than 100 people.

Atif chose blast sites

“Atif, the mastermind of Indian Mujahideen (who was shot dead last Friday), chose the blast sites and the timings,” Dhaliwal said. On September 11, two days prior to the blasts in Delhi, he had visited all the blast sites -- Gaffar Market, Regal Cinema, Children’s Park, Barakhamba Road, Central Park and M-Block Market in Greater Kailash-I, Dhaliwal added.

All left Batla House in autorickshaws

The two suspects -- Zia-ur-Rehman and Mohammad Shakeel -- arrested by the south district police on Sunday have told the police that all the bombers boarded auto rickshaws to plant explosives at the designated places. “Zia had planted a bomb in Central Park and Shakeel was the Gaffar market bomber. Both of them had taken the same route -- Ashram, Bhogal, Nizamuddin -- to reach Central Park and Gaffar Market,” Dhaliwal said.

Bombs were camouflaged

According to Dhaliwal, Atif had told his men to stuff the bags containing the bombs with banana peels and other garbage, so that if some curious passer-by had a look through the polythene bags, he would find it hard to spot anything suspicious.

Explosives stuffed in school bags-

Police claim the bombers stuffed the explosives inside school bags to carry them to the designated blast sites.

Led normal lives after planting explosives

“Saqib Nissar was the friendly face of the terror module. Zia, who was the Central Park bomber, came back to his Joga Bai home in Jamia Nagar on September 13 and lived a normal life,” said Dhaliwal.
