A 13-year-old girl was allegedly being gang-raped by her stepfather and their landlord over the last one year at east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar.

The matter came to light after the girl’s mother took her to a hospital when she complained of regular stomach pain.

Doctors found that she was three-months pregnant. Following this, the girl’s mother approached police with a formal complaint, which was later converted into a case of gang-rape along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The victim’s mother works at a thread manufacturing unit in Gandhi Nagar. After the death of her husband a few years ago, she had married the 42-year-old accused who worked as a house painter in the area. From him, she has two sons and the five stayed together.

Over the past few weeks, the victim had been troubled by stomach pain. She had stopped going to a government school in the area where she studied. Her mother took her to a hospital on Tuesday where doctors performed the necessary tests which showed that she was pregnant.

When her mother asked about it, the girl first refused to say anything, but on persistent questioning by her mother revealed that her stepfather and their landlord had been raping her.

When the mother was away at work, the stepfather allegedly raped her once. He then went on to involve the 38-year-old landlord too.

She was allegedly threatened with dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone because of which she was reluctant to tell anything to her mother despite being found pregnant.

Instead of confronting her husband and the landlord, the victim’s mother directly approached police.

A team landed at their house and arrested the two accused. They were presented before a magistrate who sent them to the Tihar jail, where they are currently in judicial custody.
