If you think you have the skills to beat the best in video gaming competitions, then here’s your chance to prove it. The Street Gamers Tournament, a first time game event is aimed at getting players from all over India on one platform.

With nine titles at stake, the tournament will see games such as Tekken 3, Street Fighter 4, Need For Speed Most Wanted, Temple Run and Counter Strike among others. “The idea of organising a gaming tournament was conceptualised last year by my friend Naresh and me. People in India don’t take gaming seriously and parents too are not so welcoming when it comes to video games. Through this initiative we are trying to promote gaming as a hobby, just like any other sport,” says Himanshu Bhasin of Akshar Entertainment, the organisers.

Gamers can participate by registering themselves for their favourite game and can go on to win prizes worth R5000 for each game. While registrations for the game Counter Strike have been closed, few slots are still open for games such as Temple Run, Tekken Tag 2 and NFS Most Wanted.

Abdul Aziz, a participant who will be competing in The King of Fighter 98 says, “I am taking the tournament very seriously. It’ll be a good experience playing with opponents from different places.”
